Mother's Day
is a special day that we celebrate Mothers. Many of us do not know
the history of the holiday. Below is a brief history of the
holiday.
Remember
to celebrate your mother every day, not just on one day of the year.
Mother's
Day is a celebration called "Mothering Sunday" in England during the 17th century. It was celebrated on the 4th
Sunday of Lent.
Julia Ward Howe suggested Mother's Day in the United States in 1872. She saw the day as a day dedicated to peace after having lived through the Civil War.
Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia is credited with bringing about the official
observance of Mother's Day in the United States. She wanted a way to honor her mother, Anna Reese Jarvis. It has been said that the idea came from the senior lady Jarvis who had tried to establish Mother's Friendship Day as a way to help heal the scars of the Civil War. The first observance of Mother's Day was a church service held on May 10, 1908 in Grafton, West Virginia and in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania organized by Anna Jarvis.
Miss Jarvis began a nation-wide campaign to adopt a formal holiday honoring all mothers. West Virginia was the first state to recognize Mother's Day in 1910. In 1911. almost every state had officially made the day official. President Woodrow Wilson made Mother's Day a national holiday to be held on the second Sunday in May.
Today, Mother's Day is celebrated around the world.

WORD
FROM PASTOR PATRICK MILLER, III
This
is the month that we celebrate our mothers. It is a month to
honor, cherish, and focus on the women who have taught us and made us
what we are.
You
should celebrate your mother every day, not just on a special occasion.
But, having a special day to honor our mothers, is an excellent chance
to remember all the things our mothers have done for us.
I
believe that we all have multiple women in our lives who have helped
us. These women include; our mothers, grandmothers, wives, god
mothers, play mothers, pastor's wives, church mothers, and a host
of other women. It is my belief that we should honor all of these
women during this month.
Make
this month a month of celebration for the whole month. Shower your
mother with love, adoration, and praise.
Be
a blessing to your mother this month and every month.
"Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: “ Many daughters have done well, But you excel them
all."
-Proverbs 31:25-29
Be Blessed... Pastor
